Dr. Md. Mujahedul Islam (Mujahed Islam) is an SSHRC Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Government at Cornell University. He earned his PhD in Political Science from the University of Toronto in 2024 and a Master of Public Policy from the Hertie School in Berlin. His research offers a framework for understanding the moral foundations of democratic stability, showing how voters with non-mainstream or contested moral views evaluate political leaders and democratic institutions in ways that can undermine support for democracy. He also studies the roles of trust, local context, and emerging technologies in political participation and representation. His broader agenda integrates insights from moral psychology with the study of democratic backsliding and comparative political behavior.
