Afaq Hussain

Afaq Hussain is Director and Founding Member of the Bureau of Research on Industry and Economic Fundamentals (BRIEF), a New Delhi based trade policy research institute. Afaq has over 18 years of experience in policy research, particularly in the areas of international trade, regional cooperation, infrastructure and logistics sector. He has been part of various trade facilitation studies on pertinent areas such as tariff/non-tariff measures/barriers, value chain analysis, infrastructure gaps at ports, and appraisal of infrastructure & policy reforms at sea and land ports in India. His focus areas over that last few years have also been aspects of regional integration particularly trade and cooperation in South Asia focusing on India Pakistan economic engagements. At BRIEF, Afaq leads the policy research team which focuses on trade facilitation and regional cooperation that includes work on India Pakistan Trade as well as Cross Line of Control trade in between both sides of Jammu and Kashmir.

He was also a member of the working group of the Infrastructure Connectivity vertical, for preparing the Development Agenda for India@75, at NITI Aayog, Government of India. Afaq is also alumni of the State department’s ‘International Visitors Leadership Program (IVLP)’, where he was part of multi regional program on ‘Smart Ports’.
